ABOUT ME
Passionate for Film & Television
My name is James Martinez, and I am a native New Yorker. As a filmmaker, I've had the opportunity to create short films in both fiction and non-fiction genres. I have a genuine passion for storytelling, using different types of media forms. I have experience in editing, directing, and producing, and I have worked in fast-paced environments under tight deadlines. I also do photography for both personal and professional use. I have worked in television, where I've produced content

STOOP STORIES
Stoop Stories is a New York City based storytelling and documentary initiative that I connect with deeply. It brings neighbors together across generations and neighborhoods, using the stoop a familiar, everyday gathering place as a space for real conversation. Through this project, I’ve seen how stoop culture can highlight under-represented voices, preserve personal narratives, and create genuine connection within the community.

Three Roses | Directed by James Martinez
A lonely man follows an unexpected trail of roses. Each rose carries a symbolic message. A single rose signifies love at first sight, while two roses symbolize a deep bond of mutual love and affection. The presence of a third rose conveys the profound words "I love you." Holding a bouquet of roses signifies that the person holding them holds a truly special place in your heart. Lastly, a white rose symbolizes the beginning of a pure and promising relationship, often associated with loyalty, innocence, and the sacred bond of marriage.

The Lost Tourist | Directed by James Martinez
A lost tourist trying to find her way around the city. The unfamiliar streets of Manhattan can be overwhelming for visitors and feel like a maze. As a way to empathize with the character's distress, I wanted the audience to feel her frustration. In order to achieve this, I wanted to incorporate long shots to make the character look small compared to the tall buildings. My intention was to capture the character's emotions through medium and close-up shots, without relying on dialogue or music. No matter what, there will always be tourists who get lost in the city.
New York | Edited by James Martinez
Director Mohammed kalam - The concept of my idea is to show that new york city has a very lively and busy lifestyle and that new york has developed the idea of how it never sleeps. There will be three areas that will be mainly covered in this short documentary film. Time square, the subway or the MTA in general, and the Brooklyn bridge. Each of the parts will have its respective visual elements as well as a narration describing the history and evolution of the area. there will also will a voice-over of people either friends, family, or random people describing their time in new york city and their reaction to the day and nights and how busy it can be

The Suspicious Bag
(Honorable mention at the BMCC Film Festival)
This is a PSA short film I worked on for class. A young man rides the train back home but is suddenly suspicious over one of the passengers on the train. We have all taken the train in NYC it's our main transportation! With people coming in and out, we need to stay vigilant. The goal of this video was to raise awareness, especially at a time when crime in the subway is on the rise.
Sleepwalking In The Bronx
A young teen from The Bronx reflects on his life. He’s slowly losing faith and wishes to leave the city behind but he's confused and alone. This was my first narrated film and I fell in love with the process of filmmaking.
